Want to spend your evenings watching a good film or series? So you’re going to have to make a choice: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, NOW, Apple TV+… the list goes on, which is why we’ve written this guide to the best streaming platform in 2023 🍿

Ah, Netflix! It’s hard to talk about streaming without mentioning this giant that has revolutionized the way we consume films and series. Present in the UK since 2012, Netflix has established itself as the market leader, thanks to a rich and constantly renewed catalog. With acclaimed original creations such as “Stranger Things” and “The Crown”, and prices ranging from £7.99 to £20.99 per month depending on the plan chosen, Netflix has something for everyone.

But watch your wallet! Although the service offers several simultaneous screens, sharing an out-of-home account means higher costs. Fortunately, with solutions like Sharesub, sharing costs becomes child’s play.

Next, let’s talk about Amazon Prime Video, a serious challenger on the rise. Available in the UK since 2014, Prime Video is distinguished by its integration into the Amazon Prime subscription, offering not only a multitude of films and series, but also benefits such as fast delivery and Prime Music. With original series such as “Carnival Row” and “Hunters”, Prime Video, included in Amazon Prime at £8.99 a month, offers a rich and varied experience.

Disney+ is a paradise for fans of the Disney, Marvel and Star Wars universes. Launched in 2019, the service offers a wide range of family content, from Disney classics to Marvel and Star Wars productions. With plans starting at £5.99 per month, Disney+ is the ideal video platform for young and old alike, offering both exclusive original series and National Geographic documentaries.

NOW (formerly NOW TV) is Sky’s streaming service and Britain’s answer to the streaming giants. Launched in 2012, it gives access to Sky’s line-up, from original series to international hits, with films and sport depending on the membership you choose. Memberships are monthly with no long-term contract, and since March 2026 NOW has also offered a bundle combining its Entertainment membership with HBO Max.

Finally, Apple TV+. Also launching in 2019, this streaming platform stands out for its exclusive selection of original Apple creations. Although its catalog is smaller than that of its competitors, Apple TV+ focuses on quality rather than quantity. At £9.99 a month, it offers a unique experience in which every content item is an exclusive discovery.

Available in the UK since 2022, Paramount+ has arrived with an ambitious strategy. Initially launched in the U.S. as CBS All Access, it quickly grew to more than 40 million subscribers. With its Premium plan at £12.99 a month, Paramount+ offers an impressive catalog, including programs from MTV, Showtime, Comedy Central, CBS, Nickelodeon and films from Paramount Pictures. An ideal choice for those seeking diversity in their streaming content.

For fans of arthouse and independent films, platforms such as Mubi, as well as French services like La Cinetek, Tënk, UniversCiné and FilmoTV, offer a unique experience. They specialize in classic, independent and auteur documentaries, a godsend for discerning cinephiles.

La Cinetek: A selection of 1,400 feature films chosen by 80 directors. Mubi: A constant rotation of cult and award-winning films. Tënk: A platform focused on auteur documentaries. UniversCiné and FilmoTV: Catalogues rich in independent cinema.

2023 is a year of change in the world of streaming subscriptions. Several platforms have adjusted their rates and offers, with Netflix and Apple TV+ raising their prices and Disney+ introducing split subscriptions. These developments reflect a market that is constantly adapting to consumer needs and expectations.

Accessibility and technology are at the heart of streaming innovations. Streaming platforms focus on cross-platform compatibility, offering intuitive user experiences on smartphones, tablets, computers and TV. Video quality, personalized recommendations and practical features such as favorites lists are also considerable strengths in enhancing the user experience.

Intelligent management of subscription costs becomes crucial.
