Several platforms are vying for your ears, each with its own strengths. Apple Music and YouTube focus on integration with their respective ecosystems, while Tidal and Qobuz appeal to audiophiles with their premium sound quality. Other services such as Deezer, Amazon Music Unlimited, SoundCloud and Bandcamp offer different approaches, whether in terms of music discovery or direct support for artists.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comparing features and audio quality<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Audio quality varies enormously from one platform to another. Spotify is limited to MP3\/AAC format at 320 kbps maximum. This is fine for conventional listening, but far from today&#8217;s standards.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other services do better. Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and Qobuz all offer lossless streaming in CD quality. Some go even further with Hi-Res, which surpasses CD quality.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pure audio quality:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Qobuz: the champion for audiophiles, with FLAC Hi-Res up to 24 bit\/192 kHz<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tidal: offers Hi-Res FLAC plus MQA technology for certain tracks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apple Music: lossless ALAC and Hi-Res integrated at no extra cost<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amazon Music: Hi-Res FLAC available by subscription<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deezer: HiFi FLAC limited to 1411 kbps (CD quality, not full Hi-Res)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For spatial, immersive audio:<\/strong> Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal all feature Dolby Atmos. This technology creates three-dimensional sound, particularly impressive with good headphones or compatible speakers. Deezer and Qobuz do not yet offer it.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Practical features:<\/strong> Tidal and Qobuz display audio resolution in real time as you listen. Handy for checking that you&#8217;re enjoying maximum quality. Amazon Music stands out for its Alexa integration and voice control.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To take full advantage of these superior audio qualities, you need the right equipment. Good headphones and speakers make all the difference. For Hi-Res, an external DAC can enhance computer rendering.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most platforms also offer AI-powered music discovery tools. Spotify remains the benchmark with its AI DJ, but Deezer (Flow), Amazon Music (Maestro) and others are catching up. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Music catalog and content diversity<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The numbers war rages on between the platforms. All claim between 87 and 120 million tracks in their catalogs. Deezer leads the way with more than 120 million tracks, followed by Tidal (110 million) and Spotify or Apple Music, which hover around the 100 million mark. But these raw figures only tell part of the story.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YouTube Music is in a different league. Its catalog is virtually unlimited, thanks to the content uploaded by users. You&#8217;ll find live concerts, rare acoustic versions or tracks that don&#8217;t exist anywhere else. It&#8217;s a real plus when it comes to unearthing unobtainable gems.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real question is: can you find what you&#8217;re looking for? On this point, Spotify and Apple Music come out on top, with an availability rate of over 96% for the tracks you&#8217;re looking for. Amazon Music, Deezer and YouTube follow close behind with around 93-95%. Qobuz and Tidal close the gap at around 87-88%, but make up for this with a more refined selection.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to exclusive content, each platform plays its cards right. Tidal relies on music documentaries and exclusive concerts. Apple Music regularly offers previews of albums and tracks. Qobuz stands out for its album reviews and in-depth articles, particularly appreciated by classical and jazz fans.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For podcasts, Spotify remains the undisputed king, with exclusives such as Joe Rogan and original productions. The other platforms also offer podcasts, but not on the same scale or with the same resources. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, if you want to support independent artists, Bandcamp remains the reference. Musicians earn a far greater share of the revenue there than elsewhere. SoundCloud also enables you to discover emerging talent directly, before they break through on the big platforms.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rates and subscription formulas<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most alternatives to Spotify offer similar or even better rates. Here&#8217;s what you need to know to make the right choice. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Individual prices are around \u20ac10-12 per month, with<\/strong>Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple and Tidal charging \u20ac10.99. Deezer Premium goes up to \u20ac11.99, while Spotify reaches \u20ac12.14. YouTube Music is the most expensive at \u20ac12.99. Qobuz Studio Premier costs \u20ac12.49 per month, but becomes more attractive with the \u20ac149.99 annual subscription.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When it comes to audio quality, some services offer more for the same price.<\/strong>  Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited and Deezer include lossless quality in their basic subscriptions. Tidal also offers lossless, but charges \u20ac19.99 for its HiFi Plus package with masters in very high definition. Spotify, on the other hand, is still limited to 320 kbps without a lossless option.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Family and duo packages allow you to split the bill.<\/strong>  Spotify Duo costs \u20ac17.20 for two accounts, and the family package \u20ac21.24 for six accounts. Deezer offers lower rates: \u20ac15.99 for a duo and \u20ac19.99 for a family. Tidal family costs \u20ac16.99. These packages include separate accounts with their own playlists and recommendations.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Students benefit from substantial discounts.<\/strong>  Spotify Student costs \u20ac7.07, Tidal \u20ac5.49. Most services require verification of student status. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Almost all of them offer free trials.<\/strong>  Apple Music, Deezer and Spotify offer a three-month trial. Other services generally offer a one-month trial. This is an opportunity to test the audio quality and interface before committing yourself.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spotify, Deezer, Amazon, Tidal and YouTube offer <strong>free<\/strong>packages with advertising and random playback. Apple Music and Qobuz do not. These limited versions may be enough to discover the service, but remain frustrating on a daily basis.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the ethical alternatives to Spotify?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faced with criticism over artist remuneration and personal data management, several platforms are proposing more ethical models.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bandcamp<\/strong> stands out for its direct approach. Creators are free to set their own prices, and receive up to 90% of revenues. On some Fridays, the platform even returns 100% of sales to the creators. Simple but effective.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Audius<\/strong> relies on decentralization. This blockchain-based service offers free, ad-free access. Artists retain control of their music and can be remunerated in tokens. Your data remains private.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For fans of free music, <strong>Jamendo<\/strong> offers a vast catalog of independent artists. No advertising, downloads are possible, and privacy is strictly respected. All tracks are licensed under Creative Commons.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Funkwhale<\/strong> takes ethics one step further. This open source solution lets you host your own music server or join an existing community. No data collection, total control over your information.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SoundCloud<\/strong> remains an interesting option for discovering emerging artists. Its free version limits data collection, and you can configure your privacy settings. Creators retain more freedom over their content.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These alternatives share common values: transparency on remuneration, respect for your privacy, and direct support for artists. They may require you to change your habits, but they offer a more ethical musical experience. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which platform is best for supporting music creation?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not all streaming platforms are equal when it comes to paying artists. Some pay derisory sums, while others offer much fairer conditions. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bandcamp, the champion of direct support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bandcamp remains the benchmark for supporting musicians directly. Unlike traditional streaming, you buy the music and the artist recovers 80-90% of the sale price. It&#8217;s concrete: a \u20ac10 album earns the artist around \u20ac8, compared with just a few cents on other platforms.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also allows you to buy merchandising and offer tips. Many independent artists make a real living from it. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tidal and its promise of better pay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tidal highlights its &#8220;fairer&#8221; remuneration policy. The platform does indeed pay out slightly more per listen than Spotify. But let&#8217;s be realistic: we&#8217;re talking about \u20ac0.01 per stream, compared with \u20ac0.003 at Spotify. So you need a lot of listens for this to be significant.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The advantage of Tidal? Its superior audio quality enhances the artist&#8217;s work. And some artists publish exclusive content.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Other options to consider<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SoundCloud lets you discover emerging artists and support them via paid subscriptions. Apple Music, despite its shortcomings, pays decent royalties thanks to its massive user base. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deezer HiFi and Qobuz focus on audio quality. They don&#8217;t revolutionize remuneration, but they do respect the work of musicians by offering quality sound. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Practical advice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To really support your favorite artists, combine approaches. Use Bandcamp for direct purchases, keep a streaming service for discovery, and don&#8217;t hesitate to buy concert tickets or merchandising. This is often where musicians make the most money.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question is which application to adopt on a daily basis to reconcile musical discovery, ease of use and respect for artists. The choice will depend as much on your listening habits as on your ethical priorities. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which application should you choose as an alternative to Spotify?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choosing your new platform depends above all on your personal priorities. Here&#8217;s how to orient yourself according to your needs: <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When it comes to audio quality<\/strong>, Tidal and Qobuz stand out with their high-resolution sound. Tidal even offers exclusive content, while Qobuz excels in classical and jazz. A word of warning: you&#8217;ll need good headphones to really enjoy them.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you&#8217;re on a tight budget<\/strong>, YouTube Music and Deezer offer decent free versions. YouTube Music has the advantage of including music videos and concerts, perfect if you like to discover things visually. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To stay in your ecosystem<\/strong>, Apple Music is a must if you&#8217;re equipped with Apple, Amazon Music if you have Alexa speakers. Integration will be much smoother. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you want to support artists<\/strong>, Bandcamp remains the champion: you buy their music directly. Tidal also pays better than average. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For families<\/strong>, most offer shared packages at around \u20ac20\/month. Deezer and Apple Music are often appreciated for their family-friendly interface. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now it&#8217;s up to you to weigh up these criteria according to your priorities to find the alternative that suits you best.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why consider a boycott of Spotify?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The criticisms levelled at Spotify are multiplying and touch on several sensitive points. Artists&#8217; remuneration is the main grievance: with derisory remuneration, musicians struggle to make a living from their art on the platform. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other controversies fuel user anger. Spotify is increasingly relying on artificial intelligence to create musical content and prioritize certain playlists. This approach worries artists, who see it as a threat to their work.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CEO Daniel Ek also invested 600 million euros in Helsing, a German start-up developing AI-driven military drones. This investment in weaponry shocked many subscribers and artists. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result? Several musicians, including Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and King Gizzard &amp; the Lizard Wizard, have withdrawn their music from Spotify. They refuse to &#8220;support crimes&#8221; and denounce the company&#8217;s practices.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These controversies are prompting some users to look for more ethical alternatives, even though Spotify continues to win subscribers despite calls for boycotts.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is the Spotify boycott being followed up by users?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spotify&#8217;s boycott remains limited and has no significant impact on its figures. Despite recurring polemics, Spotify continues to gain subscribers every quarter. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boycott movements are mainly concentrated on social networks. These are one-off campaigns, often linked to specific controversies such as Joe Rogan&#8217;s podcasts or artists&#8217; remuneration conditions. These mobilizations generate buzz but remain ephemeral.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some artists have left the platform on principle. Neil Young and Joni Mitchell did so in 2022 to protest against misinformation. But these departures remain marginal compared to the millions of creators present on the service.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The general public seems reluctant to change its listening habits. Convenience of use and the Spotify ecosystem (personalized playlists, musical discoveries) create a strong inertia. Users sometimes express their dissatisfaction online, but rarely take action.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the end, the boycotts affect Spotify&#8217;s image more than its revenues.
