Faced with the inflation of digital services, 18-24 year-olds are sounding the alarm. A new <strong>Ipsos<\/strong> study <strong>for Sharesub<\/strong> reveals that this generation, despite being ultra-connected, is the first to sacrifice its leisure activities in order to save money.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A record digital budget for Gen Z<\/h2>\n<p>Despite often limited incomes, young adults spend between <strong>\u20ac59 and \u20ac64 a month<\/strong> on subscriptions. This is higher than the French national average, estimated at \u20ac54.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\">\n<table class=\"has-fixed-layout\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Type of subscription<\/td>\n<td>Equipment rate (18-24 year-olds)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Video on demand (VOD)<\/td>\n<td>77%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Music streaming<\/td>\n<td>66%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>E-commerce services <\/td>\n<td>40%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Subscription cancellations a reflex for 18-24 year olds <\/h2>\n<p>The fact that <strong>70% of 18-24 year<\/strong> -olds have already cancelled their subscription or are considering doing so for financial reasons is not just a statistic; it is the sign of a shift in consumption patterns. Where the French average is 56%, young adults are being forced to make much more radical choices to make ends meet.<\/p>\n<p>Far from giving up their favourite content altogether, they are deploying adaptive strategies to get round the price barrier. For example, <strong>41% of them now use &#8216;intermittent&#8217; subscriptions,<\/strong> an agile method that involves activating or cancelling services as films and series are released, so that they never pay for nothing.<\/p>\n<p>However, this constant budgetary pressure is also pushing some of this generation towards riskier solutions: <strong>32% of 18-24 year-olds admit to having already resorted to illegal streaming<\/strong>, three times more than the national average.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The hidden cost of forgetting to cancel<\/h2>\n<p>The study also points to a major difficulty in day-to-day management. <strong>38% of young people experience mental fatigue<\/strong> due to the multiplication of offers.<\/p>\n<p>This confusion has a direct impact on their wallets:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>58% of 18-24 year-olds<\/strong> have already forgotten to cancel a subscription, paying unnecessarily for an unused service.<\/li>\n<li>Nearly a third of young people have repeated this oversight on several occasions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sharesub.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Design-sans-titre-2026-03-30T171702.447-1024x576.png\" loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Etude Ipsos X Sharesub focus 18-24 ans  \" class=\"wp-image-53948\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sharesub.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Design-sans-titre-2026-03-30T171702.447-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.sharesub.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Design-sans-titre-2026-03-30T171702.447-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.sharesub.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Design-sans-titre-2026-03-30T171702.447-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.sharesub.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Design-sans-titre-2026-03-30T171702.447.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Co-subscription: the solution for 7 out of 10 young people<\/h2>\n<p>Given this situation, legal cost-sharing is the solution of the future. <strong>71% of French people<\/strong> (and 7 out of 10 young people) are now in favour of co-subscription as a way of countering rising prices.<\/p>\n<p>Today, <strong>56% of young people already share their accounts<\/strong> on a one-off or regular basis.
