Spotify recently announced a price increase for all its subscriptions. This increase concerns just over 200 million users in 53 countries. The new rates will be €10.99 for the standard subscription and €17.99 for the Premium Family, an increase of €1 and €2 respectively. According to a Spotify statement, “this increase is necessary to continue offering value to fans and artists on their platform”.

How much does Spotify cost?

With this increase, all subscriptions are affected:

  • Individual subscription: €9.99 ➡️ €10.99
  • Duo subscription : €12.99 ➡️ €14.99
  • Family subscription : €15.99 ➡️ €17.99
  • Student subscription : €4.99 ➡️ €5.99

When will Spotify charge the new rate for existing subscribers?

Those already subscribed to Spotify will see the new rate applied at the next billing, between August and September 2023. Users will be informed of the price change by email.

How can I pay less for Spotify?

There are several ways to reduce the cost of your Spotify music experience. The most effective and straightforward strategy is to opt for the Premium Family subscription. This option is specifically designed to facilitate sharing Spotify subscriptions between up to 6 members, making access to music more economical for all participants. By adopting this formula, each member contributes to lightening the financial burden, thus dividing the total subscription cost by the number of users. This collective approach not only optimizes the expense of accessing high-quality streaming music, but also strengthens the bonds between members through the sharing of a common musical experience.

What about the competition?

This increase is not surprising when compared with the competition. Apple Music and Deezer’s individual subscriptions had risen to €11 by 2022. The slightly lesser-known Tidal service also followed suit at the beginning of the month. So it’s only natural that Spotify should match the competition’s prices, in order to maintain the economic margins that make it competitive when it comes to paying artists’ royalties.
